Edward Taylor

Huswifery

"Make me, O Lord, thy Spinning Wheele compleat;

Thy Holy Worde my Distaff make for mee.

Make mine Affections thy Swift Flyers neate,

And make my Soule thy holy Spoole to bee.

My Conversation make to be thy Reele,

And reele the yarn thereon spun of thy Wheele.

Make me thy Loome then, knit therein this Twine:

And make thy Holy Spirit, Lord, winde quills:

Then weave the Web thyselfe. The yarn is fine.

Thine Ordinances make my Fulling Mills.

Then dy the same in Heavenly Colours Choice,

All pinkt with Varnish't Flowers of Paradise.

Then cloath therewith mine Understanding, Will,

Affections, Judgment, Conscience, Memory;

My Words and Actions, that their shine may fill

My wayes with glory and thee glorify.

Then mine apparell shall display before yee

That I am Cloathd in Holy robes for glory."

^ POETRY CHART!!

Dear Diary,
Dear God Almighty, maker of heavan and earth, allow me to be the best I can be- Use me as your will desires. Feel my heart with love for you first Lord, and John second. Cleanse my heart body and soul, I am your clay Lord, mold me. I am a beding branch beneath your will. Edward Taylor, speaks of a relationship I desire with you Lord. Use his metaphoric poetry and cast those relationships upon us all. Allow John to love you first Lord, and if your desire me second. Use my hands to mend bread for my future husband, my back to hold me up when bearing a child, and my feet to walk through what struggles that may come forth.
Signed,
Elizabeth McGlaughlin

Essential Question: So what happens when one does not receive similar opportunities? What is the effect on individuals and on community when all are not able to realize their dream? When God is in charge of all good and bad things, when does it become the problems/excitings of the people. The Puritans were not given the opportunity to have the chance to create their own destiny, they believed "what comes, comes". Thus, no one was able to reach for goals, mourn for lost ones, or rejoice on holidays; they didn't get to truly experiance what we would call "life". When a single individual isn't in recieving of similar opportunities people around them tend to help one acheive such, but when the community as a whole does not recieve opportunities no one knows any difference therefore they continue to live life without opportunities like the rest.
